Girl Scout Council of St. Croix Valley

Mission:

The Girl Scout mission is to inspire girls with the highest ideals of character, conduct, patriotism, and service so that they may become happy and resourceful citizens.

Organization:

Girl Scouts is the world's preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls-all girls-where, in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world. In partnership with committed adults, girls develop qualities that will serve them all their lives. The qualities include strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth.

Youth:

Girl Scouts is a progressive program with materials and activities targeted to the needs and interests of girls at each stage of their development. A consistent focus at all levels is helping girls develop leadership and decision-making skills in an age-appropriate way. In keeping with this focus, troop leaders receive training in how to mentor and support girls differently at each age level. Council-sponsored program activities also vary in terms of theme, structure, and sophistication in order to
meet the needs of girls aged 5-17.

Girl Scouts can serve as a bridge between girls and their parents and provide excellent opportunities for Hispanic youth to learn about their heritage and share their stories with others. The Girl Scouts help girls build their self esteem and develop the skills necessary to face the challenges of adolescence.

Initiatives:

The ¡Soy Unica! ¡Soy Latina! materials have helped Girl Scouts engage girls in conversations about their life experience. Through ¡Soy Unica! ¡Soy Latina!, more Hispanic girls are discovering the fun, friendship, and power of girls together. Thanks to ¡Soy Unica! ¡Soy Latina!, we were able to provide much-needed materials to 150 young Latinas at our October event.
