Committee for Hispanic Children and Families, Inc. Abriendo Puertas a Nuevas Comunidades

Mission:

To improve the quality of life for Latino children and families.

Organization:

CHCF was founded in 1982, its mission is to improve the quality of life for Latino children and families in the New York City area. CHCF believes that communities are best served when provided with the knowledge to advocate on their own behalf. We support and educate the Latino community by providing a variety of services: childcare resources, referral and training for family daycare providers, HIV/AIDS education, after-school programs, student drop out prevention programs, non-traditional support groups, case management for people affected by the 9/11 events, public policy, community and coalition building, educational workshops for parents and a van campaign that travels to those areas in New York City where Latinos gather.

Youth:

By providing a variety of services described above along with health, education, food pantries, churches, etc.

Initiatives:

We use the materials in educational workshops, parents meetings and the Van Campaign. The activities of the Van Campaign were built to establish a bridge between immigrant Hispanic communities and social services agencies. We travel in a van to different areas in New York City and distribute a tote bag with useful items for families, including ¡Soy Unica! ¡Soy Latina! and Hablemos en Confianza materials.
