Families
This family Web area offers articles and resources to help you lead your children toward healthy and drug-free futures. Special sections include parenting, which offers advice on communicating more effectively with your children, and Grandma’s Wisdom, which provides important information about guiding Latina girls ages 9–14 through the challenges of adolescence and acculturation. There is also a link to our bilingual Web site just for Latina girls www.soyunica.gov! Go through the pages of this unique site with a special girl in your life and talk to her about the issues you find there. Discussing the topics presented on these pages with others is a wonderful way to reach out to parents or youth going through hard times, and it is great to use as an ice breaker with girls you mentor.
Throughout the site, parents will find informative articles on topics of interest to Latino families and will have the opportunity to order free bilingual materials. Soon, there will be a new product on DVD/VHS with information about substance abuse prevention, mental health promotion, acculturation, community involvement, and violence prevention.
We hope you find this Web area useful, and we welcome your comments and questions.
